The Health Service Executive (HSE) is sponsoring a Masterclass for healthcare professionals on abortion. Orginally entitled “Termination of pregnancy: A lawful choice”, it has been renamed “Termination: Dealing with complex issues,” following complaints pointing out that abortion is not lawful in Ireland. It seems, however, that nothing but the title has been changed. The session still features a presentation by Sherie de Burgh, a veteran of the pro-abortion IFPA.
The event is planned for NUI Maynooth (NUIM) on September 16, and is organised by the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme in association with NUIM's Department of Adult and Community Education.
The Crisis Pregnancy Agency was originally set up to reduce the number of Irish women traveling abroad for abortions. The various people who ran it over the years never really seemed to understand that and it effectively operated as a pro-abortion agency. Last year it was abolished and its functions taken over by the HSE, but clearly nothing of note has changed.
The “masterclass” touting “termination” as a lawful “choice” (note the standard pro-abortion language) is intended for medical professionals who encounter clients with unplanned pregnancies. It is being given by Sherie de Burgh of One Family (formerly of Ireland's Planned Parenthood affiliate the IFPA). No doubt there are plenty of things the HSE could do to support doctors whose patients are facing crisis pregnancy, but top of their list is abortion! Abortion is not lawful in Ireland. It is lawful in other countries, but so are lots of other things. Should we expect HSE sponsored masterclasses on euthanasia, compulsory sterilisation, embryo experimentation, or prostitution? All of these, after all, are “lawful” somewhere.
Send the following petition today to let the HSE know that it is not acceptable for it to be promoting abortion.
I note that the "masterclass" for health professionals organised by the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme, in association with the Department of Adult and Community Education at NUI Maynooth, originally entitled "Termination of Pregnancy: A Lawful Choice," has been renamed "Termination: Dealing with complex issues". There is no evidence, however, that the content will be any different. The session still consists of a presentation given by Sherie de Burgh, for many years an employee of the pro-abortion organisation the IFPA.
The original title of the masterclass suggested approval of abortion on the part of the organisers and sponsors. The continuing involvement of Ms de Burgh continues to suggest such approval, the change of title notwithstanding. The Crisis Pregnancy Agency (the precursor of the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme) was established with the specific mandate to reduce the number of Irish women traveling abroad for abortion, not to run masterclasses encouraging health professionals to facilitate them.
I ask you to take the necessary measures to have this event cancelled, or replaced with a session that promotes measures to help Irish women avoid abortion. I also urge you to ensure that the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme ceases to promote abortion and concentrates on its core mission of providing real assistance to women facing crisis pregnancy.
