The report 'Your Rights - Right Now' is being submitted to the Universal Periodic Review which will examine Ireland's compliance with the UN Convention on Human Rights in October. The document calls for legalised abortion in Ireland and will be used by pro-abortion groups like the IFPA to put pressure on the Irish government.
Many other groups have unwittingly endorsed this pro-abortion document. Some have already withdrawn their support after the pro-abortion section was drawn to their attention. The more groups that distance themselves from this, the less credibility it will have.
Please sign the petition today to ask legitimate human rights organisations not to let themselves be used to push abortion in Ireland.
Your organisation is listed as endorsing the report 'Your Rights - Right Now'. This report states that by restricting abortion, "the [Irish] State disproportionately interferes with women's rights to health, privacy, life, freedom from inhuman or degrading treatment and non-discrimination." It recommends that "Ireland should immediately repeal the 1861 Offences Against the Persons Act (criminal sanctions for those who have abortions and those who assist them) and immediately enact legislation to clarify the circumstances under which an abortion may be lawful as recommended by the Constitutional Review Group in 1996 and the European Court of Human Rights in 2010."
I was surprised and disappointed to see your organisation endorse this call for legalised abortion in Ireland. This report (and your reputation) will be
used by pro-abortion groups to put pressure on the Irish government to
legalise abortion--something that opinion polls consistently show the vast majority of Irish people do not want.
Can you please outline to me your position with regard to abortion? If you are opposed to legalised abortion in Ireland, I strongly urge you to withdraw your endorsement of 'Your Rights - Right Now' and make a public statement
clarifying your position.
